MINIMUM EFFORTS MAXIMUM RETURNS

Many a times i have found students with a general complain that they study a lot, they do a lot of hard work, but even then they r not able to score very good marks. On the other hand many students r there who don't seem to be very hard working; they can be found very often playing in the field, spending most of their time surfing the net etc. Even then they score higher marks than what a general student scores. So what's there that makes such a difference. Here are a few tips which i feel can make a lot of difference.

1. If we look forward to a student's daily routine now-a-days, near about 10 to 12 hours of a students daily life is dedicated to so called studies. Normally a student gives 6 hours to school, two to three hours to tuition and about one or one and half hours to complete the homework. But how many hours does the student really study. Study means when someone is learning something. Being in school or tutions or doing homework doesn't ensures that a student is learning.

2. Doing homework now a days means that a student is just copying the answers of the questions given for homework. The basic concept of homework is, that the student must be able to answer the questions on the basis of what he/she has learnt in the school. He/she should not take the help of any book, guidebook or anything extra for answering these questions.

3. Many a times i have felt that the students who r present in the class r just physically present, mentally they r not. Its clear from their facial expression, about how much r they understanding. One of the reason behind this can be the way the things r presented in front of them. But that is just an excuse. The most important thing is that one has to be very attentive in the class. In the class our eyes should work as an scanner and ears as recorder, they should record each and every thing tought in the class, and should store them in mind in such a way that the student can bring out the print whenever he/she wants.

4. Many students complain that they don't get interest in the topic, thats why they r not able to concentrate in the class. For them the best solution is, before entering in the class u should know what topic the teacher is going to discuss that day. U must atleast have an overlook of the topic before entering in the class. That will give u an idea of what u r going to study in the class. In the class one has to be very attentive. Class is the best place one can learn. At home whenever u study, only one mind is working on that topic, it only thinks in a particular way. But in a class so many minds r working, they can raisedifferent types of questions and that can help u thinking in a alternative way also. May be that will make u understand things better. Whenever u have a doubt u get it cleared, or pen it down so that it can be cleared later on .

5. Whatever u have learned in the class, make sure u revise it the same day, if not same day atleast the same week. Go through the chapters and read fast. Grab important points and make notes of them. For making notes, get a blank piece of paper and outline the material you need to study. This helps develop a "big picture" overview of the material. Start with big topics and leave room for subtopics. Fill in the information as best as u can. Once u see all the units of information in front of you it will be easier to organize your studies. U must make notes of all topics in such a way that it must cover the complete topic in the simplest and shortest way, so that whenever u get time u don't have to go for the complete topic, u just go through ur notes and the complete topic is through.

6. One of my teachers used to tell us, that preparation for exams is just like polishing something. It doesn't matters how much polish u put on, the thing which matters is how much u brush that. The more u brush, the more it will shine. The same thing is applicable with studies also, studying more and more is of no use, if u r not able to recall the previous one on right time. So keep on revising the previous topics time and again.

7. Use unconventional methods for studying that will make ur studies more interesting and understandable. Using internet for study material, visiting local public library, and having group discussion with friends will help you learn things quickly.

8. Normally we prefer to study subjects of our interests rather than the subjects in which we r not interested. We must keep in mind that all subjects carry equal wieghtage. if we work very hard in one or two subject and leave the rest that will ensure u good marks in those particular subjects only, but what about the rest. Recurring low marks in these subjects make us hate the subject even more. What u need to do in such a situation is make an analysis of the subject, see what all types of questions are generally asked in the exams and prepare so that u have to do the minimum work in that particular subject, that will assure u of good marks.

9. While preparing the subjects which have numerical problems, solve them using pen and paper; reading through them is just a wastage of time. When u solve a numerical on paper only then u come to know the actual problem and its solution. That makes u understand that problem much easier.

10. Always be a part of a friend circle, where u get lots of opportunities to learn. Its not that u always have to be a part of a studious group, but whatever group u join should be an constructive one. A positive environment always creates positive opportunities.

All the best for ur studies
