Bid to promote scientific aptitude

The Union Science and Technology Department will soon launch an 'Inspire' scheme to promote scientific vision and aptitude among school children. A task force is being constituted for the purpose. This was disclosed by the Union science and technology secretary, T Ramaswami in a meeting with the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Mr Ashok Gehlot on November 18,2009.
According to the scheme, in each secondary school one meritorious science student would be selected under the scheme to prepare a scientific project and they would be given a cash award of Rs 5,000 to prepare it. The selected students would be given an opportunity to participate at a national level exhibition. Centre has decided to select 2,000 students every year under the scheme.
Besides this, those students who score the highest marks in science in Class X would be selected for special orientation camp during summer and winter vacations under 'Inspire internship'. The government would give them opportunity to interact with noted scientists, professors, and other dignitaries. they would also get opportunities to interact with Nobel laureates.
