Centrally Sponsored National Means- Cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme
The objective of the scheme is to award the scholarship to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to check their drop-out at class VIII and to encourage them to continue in the secondary stage up to class XII.
Under this scheme total 1,00,000 (1lakh) students whose parential income from all sources is not more than Rs. 1.5 lakh, would be eligible to avail the scholarship. These scholarships will be provided quarterly to the students studying as regular students in class IX in goverment, local body and government - aided schools.
The students shall have minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in class VII examination for appearing in selection test for award of scholarship (Relaxable by 5% for SC / ST).
A selection test would be held at the state level for students of class VIII> This would be conducted along with the first stage selection test of the National Talent Search Examination conducted by the state governments under the guidance of NCERT. Registration of students for Means- cum Merit Scholarship scheme may be made separately from the registration of students made for NTS scheme.
The students must pass both the tests i.e MAT and SAT with at least 40% marks in each. For the reserved category this cut off will be 32% marks. At the time of selection for the award of scholarship the candidate must have scored at least 55% or equivalent grade in class VIII examination. There will be 5% relaxation for SC / ST.
The scholarship will be paid from class IX to class XII (For a maximum period of four years. The amount of scholarship is proposed to be Rs. 6000/- per annum @ Rs. 500/- per month.
The selected students would be given ATM cards of the State Bank of India and they can directly operate the account in which the scholarship would be deposited.

Resonites excel once again in NTSE Stage-2 (2010)
The result of NTSE Stage-2 was declared on Tuesday July, 06 and once again Resonites shone and performed very well. According to the result declared, 196 students of Resonance PCCP Division were successful.

Student of Resonance PCCP division got selected for final stage of International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2010.
Resonance PCCP division has again touched the zenith of excellence in the field of competitive Examination preparation.
The result of Stage- III of IJSO was declared on 5th instant and out of total 6 selected students, Yash Gupta of PCCP (presently studying in class- X at PCCP's Udaipur branch) got selected for final stage of International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), which will took place in Nigeria in Year 2010.
A total of 6 member students' team & 3 teacher leader will constitute the delegation to represent India for the final round of International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2010. This is the second consecutive year when student of Resonance PCCP division will be representing India at International Level.
The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is a competitive examination open to students of all countries in the world, primarily studying in secondary schools. All basic subjects of Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) are given equal representation in the IJSO examination. The stage-1 of IJSO is conducted by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) Pune and was held on 22 Nov. 2009. Stage-2 of this Olympiad was held on 31 Jan 2010. 10 REASONS WHY THE KVPY SHOULD ACCEPT YOUR PROJECT
Innovative:
Your project has got to be something different. It has to be something that strikes the reviewers as being new, well-thought out and thus, reflect to them the fact that you happen to have a bright mind and a sharp one too. One of the projects that a friend made, which made it till the interviews but did not get selected in the final draw was acknowledged by the interview board to be one of the most intriguing studies they had ever come across. It was: “Acquisition of Homosexuality in Adolescents: A Risk Factor Stratification: Is it Environmental?”
“So what?”
Your study should answer the question “SO what?” By that, I mean that when you present your study and someone asks you “So what?” you should have a cogent reply to that. Lots of studies are being done which do not really have any outcomes, any impacts or effects whatsoever! It’s useless to submit such a project for the KVPY, nay; it’s useless to submit it anywhere for anything!
Potential for further studies
One of the major objectives driving research is that one study should form the basis for another one. Research should spawn more research, and thereby add to the body of knowledge. If your study happens to have dead end findings, either you are in line for a Nobel Prize, or…
KISS
Acronym for Keep It Short & Simple (I find saying Stupid on the last S a waste of an S.)
Need I say more?
Presentation
A last moment paper, written hurriedly, filled with typos, poor formatting, badly arranged headers, etc. is an eyesore. No one likes to see such a paper. Whilst I do not suggest that you should go to the extent of making a great expenditure to beautify your report, it should be neat and clean. Professional. If you are not sure how a paper should look, go download a paper from NEJM (www.nejm.org) or The Lancet (www.thelancet.com) or any other reputed Biomedical Journal and download a research paper and see how theirs are formatted. However, stick to any specifications for the KVPY.
Methodology
The key to a good study is proper methodology. A messy methodology not only clouds proper conclusion and decision making, but also raises serious aspersions on the originality and genuineness of the study. For example, I went to a research conference where someone presented a study where, he showed that there were 50 normal pregnancies and 50 eclamptic ones (which he encountered in 2 months’ time). Now the questions raised in this regard are:
Were the eclamptic patients not managed? It is unlikely to let 50 patients develop eclampsia at a tertiary care center over a period of 2 months only. This shows really poor obstetric management.
Did the study properly define eclampsia? Or were they just severe pre-eclampsia?
Did the researcher DO the study at all or was he just bluffing numbers?
And of all the questions asked, the last one is almost always deadly, lethal, so to say. No one looks kindly upon a researcher who cooks his books.
Feasible and Realistic
Well, if you want to do a study on induced pluripotent stem cells and happen to be a student in a rural medical college or one like mine where research labs are not that great, then, that is evidently not going to happen. Whilst it’s never bad to dream big, one should also remember the realistic bindings and issues as well. Otherwise, a great project will be envisioned, and never executed. And no one appreciates work you never did.
Applications
The KVPY application forms are an extensive exercise, and the applicants would be well advised to write them with a lot of thought, and imagination, if I might add. Questions like “What medical innovation has inspired you most?” or “What did you learn while doing this project?” or “Name a medical instrument that intrigues you and say why?” are often incorporated in them, eliciting, unknown to the student, and a graphic detail about him/her. So, by the time you get selected and reach the interview board, the interviewers know you well enough.
So, think before you leap!
Another thing that I almost messed up was the online application which I had to submit almost at the last moment; because I was not aware it existed. Thankfully, I managed to get things done properly and thereafter it was smooth sailing, but it is highly unadvisable to do that!
Recommendations
Can one ever over emphasize the need for a set of good letters of recommendation backing up his or her application? A recommendation that marks you the highest marks on all the factors is not always the best one. But, rather, the best one is where the recommenders’ assessment is at par with the recomendee’s assessment. For example, after I got selected for the interview, my recommender told me that he had written that he thought that though I have a poor hold over biostatistics, my strength lies in my ability to innovate and bypass problems using novel approaches, something I had also admitted in my application. So, ask your recommenders to give an honest opinion. It works.
The X-Factor
One can list reasons after reasons, but never come up with the perfect algorithm that can determine which project goes through and which does not. However, the X-Factor is something which is not within our powers to control, and hence, is best not bothered about.

PCCP student secured ARR-1 in NTSE stage-1
In the revised result of NTSE stage-1(2010) total 101 students (out of total 259) were selected from Resonance and out of them 13 students stood in top 10 ranks and 48 students achieved their positions in top 20 ranks. Student of class- IX Parth Sharma secured ARR-1 by securing 157 marks out of total 200. Similarly Chitrang Gupta , Mrinal Choudhary & Soumitra Agrawal secured 2nd, 3rd & 4th position respectively.
Everybody knows that SIERT did blunder in declaration of result this year and because of the pressure created by parents through Right to Information (RTI) Act they had to revise and declare the corrected result.
Since students' marks & ranking was not declared earlier so again parents asked all the details from SIERT under the RTI act. Here we would like to share this information with everyone that this blunder in the results was brought to the public notice by PCCP Division only.
The latest information about marks scored by students and their rankings were disclosed by SIERT to only those parents who have filed the RTI, seeking their wards performance in this examination. The efforts of PCCP division and the parents made through filing RTI's has started showing its effects. One of the major changes that occurred in the NTSE- II stage exam this year was that, immediately after the examination the question paper was given to the students, this was something new for the students.
It seems NCERT is making the process of this exam more transparent, which is definetly more beneficial to the students.

A Qualitative Analysis of State Level Tests of National Talent Search Examination - for Rajsthan state
Mathematics
The Mathematics section contains 20 questions. All the items were of simple MCQs. None of the questions were having high difficulty level. Out of 20 questions, 3 questions were from Number System, 3 were from Ratio of Proportion, 4 questions were from Algebra, 5 questions were from Geometry, 4 questions were from Mensuration and only 1 question was from Data Handling.
Science
The science section in the test contained 35 questions – 10 in Physics, 10 in Chemistry and 15 in Biology. Questions had variety – 2 were of AR type and 2 MT, remaining all were simple multiple choice variety. Out of 35 questions, 16 questions tested higher mental abilities – 2 in Physics, 2 in Chemistry and 12 in Biology. In total 5 questions pertain to difficult level, 7 were of average and remaining 23 were estimated to be easy. Q. No. 32 is a good analytical question.
Social Science
In social science these are 31 items out of which 29 items are simple multiple choice type.Nine items were found to be testing higher mental abilities, 1 in History, 6 in Civics and 2 in Geography. Questions in Civics have covered all the important topics like Constitution, Foreign Policy and the U.N. Geography questions seem to put emphasis in Drainage! Questions in History are more related to historical personalities/figures.
